A Reason to Pick Up
So Eric Clapton was just 3 years and 4 months clean and sober after a life long addiction to drugs and alcohol, when his son at the age of 4 fell and died tragically from the 40 something floor of a building in NYC
He had fame, access to who knows how many people with drugs
Money....forget about, as he said in his autobiography he never knew a lack of
Was around people who used, in the music business, rampant with drugs
YET he did NOT PICK UP
I have been blessed that the obsession to use left me long ago
When I used to think oh poor me life this and that etc....I'd always think of my musical idol
I'd think, man if he didn't pick up after what happened to him, I just can't think of a reason for me that is justified.
Don't pick up.
You owe it to yourself to enjoy the Miracle of Sobriety.
Clapton is coming up on 24 years clean and sober, I'm coming up on 8
I can't think of any reason to pick up.
While Clapton is not the face of AA, NA or even MA, he is an addict who has managed to stay sober.
Neither is Keith the face of any 12 step program yet I admire his sobriety, as I do anyone I know on the board and in recovery who day after day don't pick up and carry the message of recovery to the addict who still suffers from the disease of addiction
