It's Working - 40.25 Years of Sobriety
At the Wednesday night meeting in Torrance, California, we give chips, along with a hug or a handshake, for various lengths of sobriety from marijuana, alcohol, and all other mind altering chemicals. Last night, these marks of sobriety were taken by six people for 90 days of sobriety, one year of sobriety, three years of sobriety, two for ten years of sobriety and one for sixteen years of sobriety.
It's one thing to read about the effectiveness of the solution offered in the twelve steps and twelve traditions of Marijuana Anonymous and another thing entirely to see the proof. Listening to their personal stories sharing experience, strength and hope was inspiring. I am grateful for the opportunity to have these people in my life as they make my life so much better.
Tonight I think I'll pick up another meeting...in Carson. It's a newer meeting and always has several people who are just starting their journey. Maybe something I say will allow them to identify with the problem and the solution. Carrying the message to the addict who still suffers is a great way for me to enjoy my own sobriety all day long.
