Strictly Recovery Or Social Discussions Also

#0, by ruffmike, 12 June 2010 09:01 PM

This board seems great and could really take off. Will the discussions be on recovery only or will outside social activities be allowed also?

I ask because my recovery seems to encompass nearly all aspects of my life. I participate on other boards (construction, music) and sometimes my program becomes part of the discussions there.

I suppose one of the issues of allowing outside topics may be the danger of forming cliques which in turn could easily alienate people.

Is there a rules page for this forum? This is the first I have heard of Lefora.

What would lead you to believe that we're organized? Rules page? Not yet....

Our intention was to focus on recovery and to provide support for new groups. OTOH, I like the idea of a dedicated category for socializing.

Stay tuned and thanks for sharing your ideas.

I share your ideas and thoughts.

Typically any of the boards I do post on...it is the "general disscussion" that seems to be...
1) most popular
2) most in need of moderation!!!

In our current format the "Life with Hope" section may be closest.
I'm going to go in and change "how is your recovery is today" to perhaps, "tell us how you are today"
Try for a litte leeway.

Keith, Thanks for the reply. I noticed you posted the L.W.H. twelve steps, someone mentioned at our last Monday night meeting that this might be happening. I guess this is it! Very cool and thanks for your service.

Whichever way things go, I am sure this board will be a success. Thanks for your service, it must have taken a lot to get this set up.

One other thing, in your picture you look more like a Fender than a founder! smile

Humor aids my recovery. Can you find any here?

1. A vulture boards an airplane, carrying two dead raccoons. The stewardess looks at him and says, "I'm sorry, sir, only one carrion allowed per passenger."

2. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. One turns to the other and says, "Dam!"

3. Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft. Unsurprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it too.

4. Two hydrogen atoms meet. One says, "I've lost my electron." The other says, "Are you sure?" The first replies "Yes, I'm positive."

5. Did you hear about the Buddhist who refused Novocain during a root canal? His goal: transcend dental medication.

6. A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse. "But why?", they asked, as they moved off. "Because," he said, "I can't stand chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer."

7. A woman delivers a set of identical twins and decides to give them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named "Ahmal." The other goes to a family in Spain ; they name him "Juan." Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Ahmal. Her husband responds, "They're twins! If you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal."

8. A group of friars were behind on their belfry payments, so they opened up a small florist shop to raise funds. Since everyone liked to buy flowers from the men of God, a rival florist across town thought the competition was unfair. He asked the good fathers to close down, but they would not. He went back and begged the friars to close. They ignored him. So, the rival florist hired Hugh MacTaggart, the roughest and most vicious thug in town to "persuade" the friars to close. Hugh beat up the friars and trashed their store, saying he'd be back if they didn't close up shop. Terrified, they did so, thereby proving that only Hugh can prevent florist friars.

9. Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and, with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him (Oh, dude, this is so bad, it's good…..) a super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

10. And finally, there was the person who sent ten different puns to friends, with the hope that at least one of the puns would make them laugh. No pun in ten did.

I just realized that, like on Facebook, I can give a thumbs up or down on any particular post. I like this a little better than a Yahoo group right now because it's easier to see all the recent posts on one page.

Yes, and the topics stay together. I think it's much easier to follow what's going on and to refer back to good stuff I've read.

Soon we'll be ad-free also. Right Lou?

Have strict rules on what people can write will limit the discussions and turn people off.  Posts can be flagged and removed, however there shouldn't be too many limits as to what is written.  I'm not sure which BB system is installed here, but they usually have lots of plug-ins and features like having the ability for members to flag certain items like cragslist,

Our Forum is hosted at http://www.lefora.com/. It is free, but we pay for it to be ad-free (to be faithful to our Traditions).

So far, there have only been one or two posts that were intolerablesurprise.
